We are a non-profit organisation that depends on volunteers, and we are always interested in hearing from you if you would like to get involved.

The day to day work is done by the operations team, who share a passion for meaningful work - whether it's trying to save the planet, the satisfaction of solving a problem, or simply doing work that we're good at and proud of.

Interested in joining the team? Get in touch - we're especially interested in creating opportunities for those of you who have recently arrived in Switzerland. At the moment we can't offer paid positions, but it's a good way to keep your skills sharp and work on an important topic.

Open Operations Team positions:

Social Media & Marketing Lead - 20% (Volunteer)

You'll be responsible for using planning tools like Hootsuite and Facebook to create and schedule social media posts, and respond to comments. You'll also be responsible for sending out a monthly newsletter to our subscribers using mailchimp (the content may be written by you, or by other team members). This role requires a 6 month commitment, and 4 hours a week in-person work at our Muttenz project office on Fridays (the remaining half day will be spread over the week, in order to manage and respond to social posts). Starting September 2021.

UX and Website Lead - 20% (Volunteer)

You'll be responsible for tracking and analysing how people are using our e-commerce web platform. You'll use tools such as google analytics and hotjar to understand what is and isn't working, and make basic changes to the website coding to ensure a frictionless user experience (within our modest budget, of course). You will also be asked to contribute to wider discussions about in-person user experiences.  This role requires a 6 month commitment, and 4 hours a week in-person work at our Muttenz project office on Fridays (the remaining half-day can be either in Muttenz or working from home). Starting September 2021.

Open General Volunteer Positions:

Möbel Kollektiv Furniture Ambassador  / Shopkeeper - 8 + hours / Month (Volunteer)

You'll greet potential customers at our little showroom near Spalentor, and explain our concept and online shop. You'll also answer their questions about the vintage, antique and second-hand stores in and around Basel, and show them our map of these. You should be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Basel's furniture shops, and be able to communicate effectively in both English and German (you don't need to be a native speaker). You may occasionally handle sales transactions, for the limited number of items we have in the showroom (training on this will be provided). You'll work a minimum of 2 shifts a month, each 4 hours long, on either Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays (if you have more time, then you can work additional shifts). A minimum 3 month commitment is required. Rolling start - multiple positions available. 

Übersetzungspraktikant Deutsch - 10 Stunden / Monat (Freiwilliger)

Du wirst dafür verantwortlich sein, unsere künstlich generierten Übersetzungen regelmäßig zu überprüfen, um sicherzustellen, dass sie Sinn ergeben (wir verwenden Google Cloud Translation). Diese Rolle erfordert ein 3-monatiges Engagement, inklusive mindestens einmal im Monat an einem Freitag in unserem Projektbüro in Muttenz. Anfang Sept. 2021. 

Stagiaire en traduction française - 10 heures / mois (Bénévole) 

Tu seras chargé de vérifier régulièrement nos traductions générées artificiellement pour nous assurer qu'elles ont du sens (nous utilisons google cloud translation). Ce rôle nécessite un engagement de 3 mois, dont au moins une fois par mois un travail en personne à notre bureau de projet de Muttenz, un vendredi. Commence en septembre 2021.

Expert Advisors

We are always keen to learn from others. Do you have an area of expertise that you think would really benefit us? Do you love our concept, want to be involved, but don't have the time to commit to a regular volunteer role? Then we'd like to welcome you as an expert advisor:

  • Attendance at quarterly update meetings ( 2 hours four times a year, online or in-person)
  • Availability for short questions / feedback on an ad-hoc basis (1 - 2 hours a month)
